Public health nurses provide services throughout
Health Assistance Program (Formerly
Health Foundation)
Current Events and Information

Immunizations- Through the provision of safe, affordable immunizations, the public is protected from vaccine-preventable disease. The health department serves as a focal point for immunization administration, education and information. Clinic Schedules are:
Mondays: 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM
Tuesdays: 2nd and 4th Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Satellite Clinics: Every other month: February-April-June-August-November
Newport clinic (Eidemiller Building)
1st Thursday 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM
School Clinics: 1st two full weeks in August
9:00-11:00 am and 1:00-3:00 pm
All childhood immunization clinics are on a walk-in basis. Appointments will be scheduled as needed.
Parents should bring their child’s immunization record. Parents/guardians must be give permission in writing if someone else brings the child. All recommended vaccines will be given safely on the same visit. No one will be refused (Ohio Department of Health) vaccines due to an inability to pay an administration fee. The cost of purchased vaccines will not be waived. International travel clients must have a consultation before coming for vaccines.

Communicable Disease Control- The Sidney Shelby County Health Department
continues to report, investigate, and follow up on
HIV Testing- HIV testing and AIDS counseling are at the Health Department every third Wednesday of each month. Walk in and ask for Vince. All testing is anonymous.

Help Me Grow-The Sidney-Shelby County Health Department
offers the Help Me Grow Program which focuses on the growth and development of
children ages birth to 3 years. Help Me
Grow serves expectant parents, newborns, infants and toddlers, and provides
newborn home visits and on-going health developmental services. Goals for Help Me Grow are as follows:
expectant parents and newborns thrive, infants and toddlers thrive, and
children are ready for school.

BCMH (Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps)- The nurse assists Shelby County families in accessing and obtaining the most appropriate health care and related services for their children with special health care needs.
Ohio WIC (Women, Infants & Children) –The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a federally funded program that serves income eligible pregnant and postpartum women, breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age 5.
The program provides a combination of highly nutritious supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support and referrals to health care. WIC has proven to be effective in preventing and improving nutrition-related health problems within its target population.

Health Promotion-The Health Department has certified car seat
technicians who provide car seat inspections by appointment. The Ohio Buckles Buckeyes program is
administered by the Health Department which provides a car seat and car seat
education.
The nursing staff
fit bike helmets which are available for a nominal fee.
The nursing staff
provides health promotion activities at health fairs providing Dermascan,
cholesterol, glucose, and blood pressure screening.
School Health- Mandated vision and scoliosis screenings are done with referral of suspected problems. Health education and counseling are done on request. The nurses assist in pre-kindergarten registration and assessment activities and initiate school health records. Services are provided to every school in Sidney and Shelby County. Several schools contract for school nurse clinic time.
Well Child -Assessments and screenings are performed on clients birth to age 21, with
an emphasis on health promotion and preventative health practices. The clinic is based on a sliding fee scale
for services. Adolescent
screenings/sports physicals are done by appointment.
